Braille vs CyR.U.S.

We love Braille, the tactile writing system used by people with low-vision. It consists of tiny raised dots that a trained person can “read” using tactile feedback. But Braille requires a high degree of education to master. And Braille is space intensive and therefore technically challenging and costly to implement on packaging⁠.⁠

While Braille is a beautiful and amazing language, we ruled it out as a messaging system. As it turns out only around 10% of the visually-impaired population reads it, and Braille occupies a lot of space, which is at a premium on product packaging. ⁠
